A change in the Charnwood 2006 Organisers has given Laura he opportunity to interview the new Deputy Scout Organiser, Jo Brown.

Developments have been coming thick and fast in preparation for Charnwood 2006. Groups that have registered are now being sorted into sub camps, plans for the activities are being finalised and bands are being chosen for the entertainment, to name just a few of the things going on!

As you probably already know, Jo Brown has taken over as Deputy Scout Organiser for the Charnwood 2006. When asked how she felt to be coming in at a later stage, Jo said, “I was dead chuffed to be asked! The circumstances were unfortunate but I've been made very welcome and feel part of the team.’

She is more than qualified for the job, having been Activities Team Manager at Charnwood 2001. When she's not busy helping to organise Charnwood, Jo is an Explorer Scout Leader in Hinckley District, as well as being a member of Fox Coverts Camp Site service team. She is obviously a very busy person indeed.

Jo admits to being “Quite a Charnwoodite” and says she is “very enthusiastic about all things Charnwood,” which means that she is definitely the right person for the job.

She did, however, cause controversy when asked if she liked biscuits as much as the rest of us, admitting that she prefers chocolate. Something will have to be done about that! Even more controversially, she has cited jaffa cakes are her favourite biscuit, which are a bit of an anomaly in the biscuit/cake crossover world.

When asked how she thinks Charnwood 2006 will differ from the rest she said; “As we've never held Charnwood at Whatton House before it will be very different, and having the senior section sub camp doing different activities will be a first.”

She most looks forward to the opening ceremony and can't wait to “see everyone in one place ready to have the times of their lives.” Of Whatton House she says “The house is a great back drop and the contours definitely provide a challenge!”

Of the Youth Forum she says, “It's good to hear what young people have to say and to make sure we're doing what the young people want.”
