Medieval Sub Camp
Welcome to the Medieval Sub Camp page where you can find information about being on the staff at Charnwood 2006!!

Medieval News
Added 31 May 2006
You can read all about it here in Olde English or Website Format

Medieval Info
Most staff will camp on the Medieval Sub Camp, which will also house places such as Staff Catering, the Playgroup, the Engineering Compound and the central First Aid facility.
Meetings of staff will take place via your teams, so the first time we will meet most of you is at camp - but we will be communicating with you by post/email before that.
Your sub camp leaders are here to help you, so if you have any questions you can contact us at medieval@charnwood.org
We are also here to make sure that everyone has a pleasant camping experience - so if you need help at camp, we are the folks to see - but if you are partying the night away and keeping everyone else awake, then we will be coming to see you!! We will be looking for consideration towards others so that folks who have worked hard all day are able to get the rest they need!!
The pub at Charnwood 2006 will be located in the main village - all staff are able to go in the pub, but you will only be able to purchase alcohol if you are aged 18 plus. The alcohol policy of Charnwood 2006 is that alcohol will be consumed only in the pub during opening hours. You are welcome to bring your own alcohol to the pub (18 plus only) but please exercise discretion if carrying it through camper areas. We will of course expect that you are at all times sober enough to do the job you have signed up for at Charnwood 2006, and you should remember that, as with all scout/guide camps, over indulgence in alcohol is not appropriate!! The pub will have an outdoor area for smoking which will be screened from the campers. If you are smoking in non camper areas, please make sure that cigarette ends do not create a fire hazard.
More information about Catering and Playgroup arrangements will be out in due course, and you can keep up to date with information about camp via the Camp newsletter, Char Trek, available from your Team Manager, or on the downloads page of the website.
We are the “people in purple” and you will receive your own purple T shirt as part of your staff fee, but if you wish to order staff polos and fleeces you can obtain order forms from your Team Manager. Please make sure that you use the February order form - last orders to Theresa by April 15th please. Your team may be having “personalised” shirts - further information from your team manager:

Please make sure that you have completed the second stage of booking where you were asked for your CRB number, and please send your photos and cheques to Hadyn as soon as possible. If you have any questions you can contact Hadyn at staff@charnwood.org.
For those who are not history buffs here is a short summary of what the medieval era was. Although historically everything from the Anglo Saxons up to the Middle Ages, we will be concerning ourselves with the period between the Normans and the Tudors, i.e. the years 1154 - 1485. This is the time of Richard the Lionheart, King John and of course the legendary King Arthur of Camelot (yes, we do know he was actually Romano-British). You can expect the theme of our sub camp to reflect this era, tho hopefully the toilets will be a little more up to date!! At the closing ceremony, all campers will be wearing costume from the era of their sub camp, so start looking out your medieval gear now- get knitting your chain mail!
We have also been told that the pub will be having a 70's night, so those who were around in the 70's might also like to dig in their wardrobes and cupboards!!
We are working on a motto for the camp and have had some brilliant suggestions. More on this later.
Now, here’s where you can help us: We need to have a Sub Camp chant or Shout/yell and thought it might be good to involve some of our younger staff members in trying to find something suitable. Email us with your ideas - keep it short, sweet and easy to learn!
Our Gateway will be in the form of a medieval castle (of course) and construction plans are well underway. The gateway and our sub camp HQ will hopefully be decorated with heraldic shields and we are currently looking for any old/spare tins of paint you may have, especially bright colours, with which to paint them. If you are planning to clean out your shed in the next few months, do your bit for the environment and recycle in our direction.
Tents: As camping space is always at a premium, tentage needs to be kept to an absolute minimum, so maximum occupancy should be your aim - start making friends now! Staff catering will be available but if you really have to bring a cooking tent remember it must be at least 6m from sleeping tents. If you are camping with your own group we would like to know details of where you will be.
