Subcamps

The Stone Age
Welcome to the Stone Age Subcamp.

Stoneage Period
The only history lesson you will get from us
Stone Age was when the early development of human cultures happened, before the use of metals, when tools and weapons were made of stone. The dates of the Stone Age vary considerably for different parts of the world. In Europe, Asia, and Africa it began about 2 million years ago but in the most advanced parts of the Middle East and Southeast Asia it ended about 6000 BC, but lingered until 4000 BC in Europe, the rest of Asia, and Africa. The Stone Age in the Americas began when human beings first arrived in the New World, some 30,000 years ago, and ended in some areas about 2500 BC.
But do not worry, all mod cons will be available on the Subcamp including running water and real toilets (and maybe showers) but you will have to wait for the rest. Email the team via stone.age@charnwood.org for more info.

Some Important Points
Please let us know as soon as possible when you intend to arrive. This will allow us to have a steady flow arriving rather than a MAMMOTH stampede.
Internationals - if you require tents pitching or anything else for when you arrive please email us at stone.age@charnwood.org
Full Uniform - you WILL be expected to arrive in FULL uniform and attend the opening ceremony in FULL uniform.
However 'caveman' fancy dress will be needed for our Rock night and the closing ceremony, bring your inflatable clubs and lots of furry accessories - be creative, there may be a prize for the best dressed.
We DO NOT have a visitor day but please email any suggestions for the Subcamp activity day to stone.age@charnwood.org
Packed lunches WILL be needed for 'Holme PierrePont' and 'Alton Towers'. We are hoping there will be some BBQ's available for groups returning from Holme PierrePont to reduce evening meal times.
As we need to determine space for camping please let us know what tents you will be bringing, their size and what they will be used for, cooking, sleeping etc.
Help will be required with running activities throughout the week. On arrival each leader will be allocated ONE job for the week, if you know what you want to do or want to do more please let us know ASAP.
There WILL be showers on the Subcamp; however allocation will be by the use of tickets at 50p each, you won't get a shower every day although you are guaranteed one at Holme PierrePont.
There will be one male and one female toilet block, we will provide a tent for personal washing but you will be responsible for bowls/water etc and cleaning up after yourselves.
There will be a recycling point on the campsite for Glass, cans, paper etc.
There will be a limited number of gas bottles on site. If you think you will need a refill, please let us know ASAP
CHARNWOOD 2006 IS A DRY SITE - NO ALCOHOL WILL BE TOLERATED ON SUB CAMP. IF YOU ARE CAUGHT WITH ALCOHOL ON THE SUBCAMP IT WILL BE CONFISCATED AND YOU WILL BE SENT HOME! STAFF AND LEADERS AGED 18 PLUS MAY CONSUME ALCOHOL IN THE VILLAGE PUB ONLY!
Please refer to the 'Camp Policy and Rules' document for further information on Alcohol, cigarettes and drugs or contact us.

Warmup Event
For ALL Stoneage participants there will be a “Warm-Up” event at Blaby Scout Hut (behind County Scout HQ) in July. Entrance is £5.00 (pay on the door), this will include a disco, soft drinks (no alcohol please) and a bouncy castle. Please email the Stoneage for date/time details and please let us know numbers ASAP as we are limited to how many we can take (if your name‘s not down you’re not coming in)!
A great chance to meet other Stoneagers before Charnwood
